How We Found Wartrace

In the late Summer of 2009 we brought into our home a terrier mix dog that was roaming the streets of Sophia, West Virginia. He was a darling little dog with an interesting personality and we instantly fell in love with him. He was a little rough around the edges and somewhat worse for wear so we named him Scruffy, because he was.

Shortly after we brought Scruffy home, however, we noticed he obviously had a health issue of some sort. Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine he would be diagnosed with kidney failure. Scruffy only lived another 5 months and we missed him dearly. After countless hours of research, we found out Scruffy was part Border Terrier. We had never heard of Border Terriers and we began to read and learn about the breed.

Everything about the Border Terrier appealed to us and we started our quest to locate and adopt one. As we would soon discover, this would not be an easy undertaking. We applied to several shelters and a Border Terrier rescue group but either the dogs were already adopted, or they wouldn't adopt to a home that already had pets.

Not willing to throw in the towel, a Google search for BT breeders led us to Dave Mason and his extremely beautiful Wartrace Borders in Tennessee. What a blessing!

We contacted Dave and made the trip from West Virginia to Tennessee in June, 2010. We came back with not one, but two, beautiful puppies; Cisco and Sophie L. Dave was every bit as hospitable as his website touts. We felt like we had known him forever and he made us feel right at home.

Dave took us on a tour of the facility, we met the parents of our new puppies and Dave was thorough with information about their shots, feeding, and general care instructions.

Our vet was very impressed with our new puppies and said the breeder sure knew what he was doing. The pups had beautiful coats and were very healthy and well taken care of.
